Fairly frequent mental testing offers peace of mind Alzheimer’s Reading Room lists five self assessment tests for cognitive impairment, dementia, and Alzheimer’s. The tests vary greatly, some including questions or drawings, others recall ability or sentence copying. All tests are painless, each taking under 20 minutes. Some are done on paper, others over the computer.
All are listed for their effectiveness at detecting even mild cognitive impairment. All tests listed recommend contacting a personal care physician should the test results indicate any cognitive issues. Diagnosis of a mental illness early on is key to slowing it’s onset. Also, all are designed for non specialist use. The 15 minute “SAGE” exam, is the most highly recommended, it evaluates memory and cognitive ability.
